John is the principal Member of John D. Tongier, LLC in Overland Park, Kansas, having practiced in the Kansas City area for over 40 years.  He is licensed to practice and mediates cases in both Kansas and Missouri, with an emphasis in personal injury and medical negligence claims.

Early in his career, John worked for an insurance defense firm in Kansas City, Kansas, where his litigation practice primarily focused on defending general liability and medical claims.  In 2001, he partnered with another attorney in Overland Park, and devoted his time to representing injured plaintiffs.  In 2015, John’s practice emphasis began to shift almost exclusively towards mediation, with his caseload equally situated between Kansas and Missouri.  John’s areas of mediation experience include medical negligence, wrongful death, birth trauma and surgical injuries as well as all areas of nursing home negligence.  He enjoys an “AV rating” with Martindale-Hubbell. 

When John mediates a case, he is not just a message-carrier or a facilitator. His mediation philosophy is simple: Engage in every effort and offer strategic input, within ethical parameters, to try to get the case settled.  John is married to wife, Lisa, and has three children along with two grandkids.  He enjoys hiking, biking and playing tennis.
